Networking WORKS!

Here's a message from Marsi, one of our facilitators, to those of you who came to GEN last week:

"Hi everyone. I enjoyed meeting all of you on Monday night. I had a classic networking experience today that I wanted to share with you, as a follow-up to our discussions Monday.

A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. He was having a hard time positioning me for the jobs he had open and did not seem overly interested in me.

Then he noticed I went to college in Pittsburgh, and we talked about that. He lives in Jacksonville, FL, but grew up around the corner from my house. We graduated from the same high school, although 7 years apart. He knew my older sister. His younger sister was in my class. We spent about 30 minutes reminiscing about our neighborhood, shared names of people we knew, and "bonded." By the end of the call, he decided to make me a top priority in helping me find a job. I don't know if it will pan out, but it continues to amaze me how small the world can be. And how you just never know where the "networking" will play out.

Hope you're all having a positive week. Take care!"
