Job description:

Manages a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to build and strengthen the organization's role and reputation as a leading, community-based dropout prevention organization. The Communications Manager devises guidelines and policies; oversees impementation of processes; provides quality control for programs and; directs media activities and special events.
REPORTS TO: Director of Development & Communications
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $42,000 - $47,000
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Duties of the CISA Communication Manager include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assists in preparation of communications plan, long- and short-term strategy, pricing policy, and budget.
• Plans communications projects, including print and electronic formats, and direct mail to highlight the
organization's brand and successes.
• Manages the development and maintenance of relationships with media outlets (i.e. reporters, local radio
and TV stations, etc.) to include strategies and tactics for contact, story placement and follow-up, etc.
• Oversees and sets policy to monitor organization's image on web site and through social media networks
(i.e. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.).
• Produces compelling stories regarding CIS of Atlanta clients for stakeholders and other interested
persons.
• Plans and coordinates consistent communication materials for donors and key school system contacts in
partnership with Director of Development & Communications.
• Plans and conducts focus groups and other research to evaluate effectiveness of communications.
• Captures or ensures that CIS of Atlanta events are captured via photography.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job currently has no supervisory responsibilities.

technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write compelling stories on CIS of Atlanta clients,
business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Computer/Technical Skills - Ability to perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in design
software including InDesign; CMS for websites; the Microsoft Office Suite; Constant Contact and be able to
integrate social media into CIS of Atlanta’s communication strategy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field
• Minimum of three to five years of experience in media relations and public relations
• Experience with nonprofits
• Strong knowledge of the Atlanta media market and key reporters/editors
REASONING ABILITY:
• Ability to analyze and prioritize activities
• Can work independently without constant supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Will require some light lifting
• Must be willing to travel, as job requires
• Some driving may be required
HOURS:
This is a 12-month position. Working hours are generally 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., however it is expected that the
Communication Manager will work additional hours as necessary depending on report deadlines.
