While you're looking for a job....

While you're searching for your next job, remember that God is still in control, and He will help you. Here's a devotional for today, excerpted from God's Little Book of Guarantees, by Heather Kopp:

God guarantees His Word will show you the way
"My word is like a lamp that you can use to light your path. When your way seems dark or confused, turn to My instructions. They will shed fresh light on what you should do. When you think on My words, your understanding is sure to be illuminated."

A suggested prayer for today:
"Dear God, When I am stumbling through the darkness, please light my path. I know that You keep Your promises. I will wait for understanding from You, especially about my job search. Amen."

"We are pleased to announce that real estate guru John Adams will be our guest speaker on Tuesday, July 21st from noon-1pm at the GreyStone Power Luncheon sponsored by Douglas County Bank Mortgage.

John Adams visit couldn't come at a better time as we are all wondering about questions like: Is now the time to buy? Do I need to wait to sell? Is real estate still a good investment? Does the recent increase in home sales mean that the market is starting to rebound? John Adams is very qualified to answer all of these questions- he is often referred to "as Atlanta's most trusted voice in real estate." He speaks from experience as he has bought, sold, brokered, leased or managed residential real estate valued at well over fifty million dollars.

His investment seminars at Emory University in Atlanta have attracted overflow crowds every quarter, and his call-in radio program on News-Talk Radio 920amWGKA is listened to by thousands of Atlantans every Saturday at noon. In addition to his radio career that has covered nearly two decades, John Adams is also the author of a real estate column in the AJC each Sunday.

The GreyStone Power Luncheon is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. You can pay at the door via cash, check, Visa, MC & AMEX, but you must RSVP in advance. This luncheon will sell out. Please RSVP as soon as possible by responding to this e-mail or calling the Chamber office with your number of attendees and their names.

Reminder: You are invited to join us for the AT&T Business After Hours at The Taste for a time of great food, fun and fellowship today (Thursday, June 25th) from 4pm-6pm. NCR is coming to Georgia...and bringing 1250 new jobs

Good news: yesterday the news broke that the NCR CORPORATION is moving its headquarters to Gwinnett County, which will bring thousands of new jobs here.

Nick Masino, V-P of Economic Development for the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce, said, "We're looking at 1250 new jobs in metro Atlanta, specifically in Gwinnett County."

According to WABE, these are corporate jobs "with annual salaries around 70 thousand dollars." That's money that Masino predicts will trickle down into the rest of the local economy as people buy houses, redecorate, etc.

WABE addes, "GWINNETT ISN'T THE ONLY COMMUNITY THAT'LL GAIN NEW NCR JOBS.THE COMPANY WILL EXPAND ITS EXISTING CUSTOMER SERVICE OPERATIONS IN PEACHTREE CITY--ADDING 916 JOBS THERE. IT'LL ALSO OPEN AN ATM MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN COLUMBUS. IT EXPECTS TO EMPLOY 880 WORKERS THERE."

"NCR CORPORATION WAS FOUNDED IN 1884 AS NATIONAL CASH REGISTER. TODAY, IT STILL HANDLES MONEY TRANSACTIONS JUST ON A MORE HIGH TECH SCALE. SOME OF ITS LARGEST LOCAL CUSTOMERS ARE A WHO'S WHO OF ATLANTA BUSINESSES. THAT'S ONE REASON, NCR RELOCATED HERE ACCORDING TO SAM WILLIAMS, PRESIDENT OF THE METRO ATLANTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.((Every time you buy a ticket at Hartsfield from Delta, the machine you're using is an NCR machine, and the same with SunTrust ATMs, and when you check out at Home Depot and do it yourself you're doing it on an NCR product.))ANOTHER LURE FOR NCR. . . .INCENTIVES. OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS, IT'LL QUALIFY FOR 56 MILLION DOLLARS IN TAX CREDITS ACCORDING TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE. ACCESS TO TRAINING AND RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AT GEORGIA TECH AND OTHER UNIVERSITIES IS VALUED AT ANOTHER 60 MILLION DOLLARS." © Copyright 2009, WABE

GEN members, here's an email my husband recently received from a recruiter who had worked with him in the past. I wanted to pass it along since it has some good tips and encouragement to offer.
See you at tomorrow's meeting!

"Dear Candidates, Former Candidates and Friends,

...I wanted to touch base with all of you and share my viewpoint as a Recruiter who has been in business for the last 24 years. We hear so many negatives regarding job loss and the economy. We tend to be deflated before we begin. I see a very bright spot and believe we are going to see many more opportunities in the coming months.

"Stay focused. Utilize your network of friends, family, and former associates. Social networking sites are great ways to meet new people. Continue to stay physically active and feel strong and healthy. Look at opportunities that are tangent to what you have done in the past. Be Creative. Explore. Contact recruiters that you feel are interested in you. We all need to help each other during these difficult times. They will pass.

"Our web site has terrific information regarding your job search, writing a resume, tips on interviewing and bringing your value to the table. The section on Helpful Hints will give you great information that we have put together over the years.

We are in unchartered waters. If I can help you let me know.
