There will be 250 auto-supplier production jobs up for grabs Saturday at the Columbus Career Center, the Georgia Department of Labor said Monday.

A Kia supplier called Hyundai Mobis is seeking employees for a second shift at its 310,000-square-foot factory in West Point, Ga. The company makes front, rear and cockpit chassis modules for the Kia Sorento crossover vehicle that is being manufactured at the main Kia plant, which began production in November.

The recruitment will take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the career center, 700 Veterans Parkway.

Mobis is expected to take applications and interview workers at the center. Those who are hired by the company will complete 12 hours of pre-employment training via the Georgia QuickStart program at West Georgia Technical College in LaGrange, Ga.

Basic qualifications include a high school or general education development diploma. Mechanical or electrical skills, as well as mathematics ability, are required. Automotive assembly-line experience is a plus, but not a necessity.

South Korea-based Hyundai Mobis announced in August 2007 that it was constructing a factory adjacent to the main Kia facility, creating 600 jobs. The price tag for the Mobis plant was around $60 million.

The auto supplier was founded in 1977 and is the largest auto parts manufacturer in Korea, with factories around the world. The company also has a plant near the Hyundai auto-assembly factory in Montgomery, Ala.
